Ethereum

Ethereum is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform that enables developers to build and deploy smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps). Launched in 2015, it is the second-largest cryptocurrency network by market capitalization, following Bitcoin. Ethereum’s native cryptocurrency, Ether (ETH), is used to facilitate transactions and computational services on the network.

The distinctive feature of Ethereum is its Turing-complete programming language, which allows for the execution of complex scripts and applications that can run automatically when certain conditions are met. This capability supports a wide range of applications beyond simple financial transactions, including decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and various other use cases in different industries.

Ethereum operates on a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism as of its upgrade known as “The Merge,” which aims to improve energy efficiency and transaction speeds. The platform is continually being developed and expanded to enhance scalability, security, and usability in the evolving landscape of blockchain technology.
